Born singing and raised in a musical family, Julia honed her powerful voice busking in Perth’s Hay Street Mall. Her early music career saw her grace stages across Perth and regional Western Australia as a soloist, in her original band, and as a guest vocalist in cover bands. Highlights include appearances at Nannup Music Festival and Fairbridge Music Festival. 

Music performance took a backseat for a while as Julia focused on Spanish Flamenco performance and dance teaching in Australia and overseas under her grandmother's maiden name, Julia Lopez.

After a move to WA's Great Southern region, Julia rekindled her passion for music performance. As a music educator and vocal specialist, Julia’s recent musical journey has seen her perform as a solo artist, lead her own band "The Soul Excuse," collaborate with multi-instrumentalist, songwriter/arranger, and band leader David Rastrick, and feature as a guest vocalist across the region.

Julia Anwar aspires to keep writing and performing, dedicate time to recording her originals, and collaborate with fellow musicians to create more beautiful and interesting music.
